BigTen Network

Who
Chicago-based BigTen Network, the cable/satellite sports channel co-owned by the Big Ten Conference and Fox Sports, has been producing the BigTen 10K since 2012. Held at Soldier Field, it’s their way of kicking off the college football season every summer.
Goal
Produce images during the event that capture the fun and excitement of the race and the mascots
Outcome
A ten year relationship covering seven races, five pre-race mascot media tours and three mascot publicity portrait sessions.

Since 2015 | Sports Entertainment Media | Corporate Branding (Mascot Portraits), Event Coverage

Matt’s first business partner, Steve Green, brought him in at the last minute in 2015 when the Network asked to take some quick group shots of the eleven mascots in a hotel conference room.

A couple years later, as the event grew, Matt was brought in as a second shooter to cover pre-race and race action. These photos were used in future promotions. As a result of what he delivered, he has photographed every race since, taking over as lead after Steve’s retirement in 2022.

He’s produced hundreds of whimsical and fun images of the now 16 mascots doing everything from romping at Wrigley Field to overlooking the city from the top of the iconic John Hancock Building to cavorting with kids on North Michigan Avenue, not to mention race day images of runners and friends with their favorite character. Thus began a more than ten year relationship.
